Tull Kamtose, master purloiner from Rats in the Walls and Other Perils, has an offer for your player characters that they can't afford to refuse. But don't try anything funny, or his Amazon bodyguards might have to teach you a lesson.

The slithering, scurrying rats...
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 26, 2018 at 07:38:49 PM

They must know it was the rats; the slithering, scurrying rats whose scampering will never let me sleep; the daemon rats that race behind the padding in this room and beckon me down to greater horrors than I have ever known; the rats they can never hear; the rats, the rats in the walls.

—H.P. Lovecraft, “The Rats in the Walls”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Greetings gamer friends,

Progress goes well for our new Kickstarter Campaign! Art continues to roll in every day, and editing is moving along smoothly. With 4 days left, we are fully funded and have unlocked three stretch goals. The stretch goal that included additional writing (Iconic Characters PDF) has already been written. In fact, with all the writing complete, most of the editing done, and most of the art in, we are in great shape and likely to head into layout before the start of 2019.

We are particularly excited about Rats in the Walls and Other Perils, which features three short adventures in the city of Khromarium:

  • “Rats in the Walls”: A dockside tavern in Khromarium is plagued by rats of a most unusual breed. These abominable rodents have ruined the tavern keeper’s business and his life. The man is desperate, and he offers a substantial reward for the elimination of his horrific problem.
  • “The Brazen Bull”: Whilst traversing one of the seedier neighbourhoods of Khromarium, your party are solicited by a greasy-haired Pict. He offers to sell you a sheaf of magical lotus that allows one to see the future or to brew potions that empower the imbiber with sorcery. He beckons you to follow him into a dilapidated building....
  • “The Lamia’s Heart”: Your party are contracted by the nascent master of an unsanctioned thieves’ guild. To earn his favour, you must steal a singular gem from the mansion of a prominent merchant. Purloining this gem, however, may raise the ire of the city’s official thieves’ guild; notwithstanding, the reward is significant.

Don't forget that we are also offering a new T-shirt that features the frightening cover of Rats in the Walls and Other Perils. You will be able to add this shirt after the campaign is over, through Backerkit

Of course, there are some other great products in this Kickstarter campaign:

  • Hyperborea Players' Manual
  • Hyperborea Player Character Folder
  • Hyperborea Referee's Screen

If you have already pledged, thank you very kindly for your support. If you're still thinking about it, please act soon!

The Cartography of Hyperborea
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 19, 2018 at 07:52:16 PM

Hello friends,

Tonight I'd like to talk about the cartography of our current Kickstarter project and the two fellows responsible for it. Of course, maps are a huge component of all our products, and I have always subscribed to the notion that they should provide aesthetic enjoyment but also prove practical for game use.

Andreas Claren has been freelancing for North Wind Adventures longer than anyone, dating back to 2009 with his work on Charnel Crypt of the Sightless Serpent. He also developed the Hyperborea map for the AS&SH boxed set, based on my original pencil sketch. Always a pleasure to work with, Andreas uses a variety of digital tools to create traditionally-styled gaming maps.

Now, in Rats in the Walls and Other Perils, Andreas and I have returned to this old favorite to update the original maps and add some more!

Next is Glynn Seal of MonkeyBlood Designs, whom I started working with in 2015 (Beneath the Comet, Forgotten Fane of the Coiled Goddess, and Ghost Ship of the Desert Dunes). Glynn is a writer, artist, cartographer, and graphics software specialist. He's a jack-of-all-trade, master-of-all. He does all kinds of stuff for North Wind Adventures, but his primary function is that of cartographer. Glynn typically uses pencil and inks, with digital embellishing for finishing touches and corrections. Perhaps the most ambitious piece we had Glynn draw was the updated version of the Hyperborea map, based on Andreas's digital version, and my original pencil sketch.

Now, in Rats in the Walls and Other Perils, Glynn has drawn the ship called the Berg Breaker. He's also drawn the map for Chainsaw's short adventure, called The Brazen Bull (part of Rats in the Walls and Other Perils).

Maps are big part of the fun in tabletop games like AS&SH. I hope you enjoy the new maps that Andreas and Glynn have in store for you!

11 days left to pledge your support for this campaign! Fully funded, two stretch goals unlocked. Pledge with confidence! And thank you very kindly if you've already done so.

New Artists Spotlight!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Nov 15, 2018 at 10:09:12 PM

Greetings True Believers,

Today, I'd like to talk about the two new artists involved with this project. Of course you can expect to see many familiar faces working on the project, such as Johnathan Bingham, Daisey Bingham, Glynn Seal, Val Semeiks, Jason Sholtis, and Del Teigeler. These fine AS&SH artists have done fantastic work in the past, and their new stuff continues to provide more mood and depth to the Hyperborea setting.

Still relatively new is Diogo Nogueira, whose first AS&SH work is found in the pages of our introductory adventure module, The Anthropophagi of Xambaala, and the mid-level adventure, The Beasts of Kraggoth Manor

Brand new is Mike Tenebrae, who wowed us all with his cover art for Rats in the Walls and Other Perils, as we've shared before. Mike has been working on more stuff for us, employing a dark, gritty style.

Next is Mick Fernette, whom I met in the last year during the convention circuit. Mick participated in an AS&SH game, and whilst gaming, he was doodling in his sketchbook. Later on, I was hearing, "Jeff, you have to see this guy's art!" At length, Mick stopped by the North Wind Adventures booth. I had the pleasure of thumbing through his drawings, and I knew right away that he was a match. His style is different than our other artists, but it melds perfectly.

I hope you enjoy the work of our new artists as much as I do! It's great to have such a variety of hard-working and talented folks involved, from various corners of the globe.

We are making great progress on this project. I expect to have a timely delivery of all pledge awards. Thank you for your support, backers, and please do continue to spread the word and share our social media announcements. It truly does help! :)

Excelsior!

Cheers,
Jeffrey Talanian
